Is this New Zealand's minerals moment? Gold miner Santana Minerals Ltd just went public on the NZX Limited - the first direct listing since 2022. It's the second gold offering to investors here, next to New Talisman Gold Mines Ltd. “We’ve had minerals moments before but to see this come back, it adds a dimension to our market which we could probably do a little bit more of.” NZX CEO Mark Peterson told me. Santana is betting on its Central Otago gold mine, which could earn up to $4 billion in revenue over 10 years. It plans to apply for a mining permit later this year. Its annual production is expected to be second only to the nearby Macraes mine, owned by OceanaGold Corporation, which delisted in 2016. **WA'S MORAL OBLIGATION TO HELP WORLD DECARBONISE REAFFIRMED BY WA GOVERNMENT - so why no URANIUM?*** 👏 👏 Thank you WA Energy Minister Reece Whitby; for recognising that "the State does have a duty to the rest of the world in attempting to tackle climate change." “Whatever WA can do to help the world decarbonise above and beyond our share of emissions, is something we just must do. If that means putting extra pressure on our emissions as a State, it’s our burden to shoulder for a greater reduction in global emissions." “Mining our iron ore, our lithium, all our critical minerals – and yes, our gas – help other economies decarbonise.” So this begs the question: What about our URANIUM? Exporting uranium is the single highest leverage activity Western Australia can do to help the world decarbonise. We have an industry here ready to fly - and provide diversified employment options to replace those jobs lost in nickel, lithium and iron ore. Ministers Whitby; David Michael and Premier Roger Cook KNOW its time to address this issue. ⏰ Lets take the politics out of this issue and make a change for the State that is common sense. Murray excellent article. In the 90s I worked in a large thermal nuclear power plant in the UK (Hunterston B) and saw first hand just how expensive it is to keep it SAFE. If there were no safety measures, nuclear power would be extremely cheap. The nuclear power industry in the UK was born from the manufacturing of plutonium for nuclear weapons (in the 50s). The waste product was heat! The prediction was that electricity would become free (and no metering would be required!). What they did not anticipate was just how expensive it is to keep nuclear reactors (and the entire supply/disposal chain) SAFE.
